50 Cent's most recent album, Before I Self Destruct sees the rapper harking back to his darker, more aggressive, club-friendly hip hop roots, as he is rejoined by friends Eminem and Dr Dre.
For the explosive Before I Self Destruct album, 50 Cent returned to working closely with Dr. Dre and Eminem as he did on Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, his first official album. With Dr. Dre and Eminem producing and guesting, Before I Self Destruct is darker and harder than 2007’s Curtis.

50 cent graces us with another album after a two year hiatus. ‘Before I Self Destruct’ doesn’t showcase the commercial hip hop/rap music I prefer from 50 cent but has a grittier, heavier beat on almost all tracks consistent with his most recent albums. His mumbled raps make it hard to follow and lack sincerity and passion quickly causing disinterest. This is definitely truer to hip hop and rap than any other genre. Less RnB genre meshing and featuring artists to showcase 50 cent’s dedication to hip hop which can become tiring to listen to after awhile. An unexpected turn comes with my favourite track on the album ‘Baby By Me’ which features Ne-Yo and is a little easier to digest with 50 Cent showing a more gentle side. Fans of his latest two albums will enjoy it but for those looking for a stand out show stopper track that 50 Cent is known to produce (of ‘Ayo Technology’ and ‘In Da Club’ status) this album sadly disappoints. Another great track on the album is ‘Psycho’ which features Eminem.
