Bertie Blackman Announces New Single 'Boy' & Tour Dates with Gotye

Bertie Blackman - 'Bertie Blackman Announces New Single 'Boy' & Tour Dates with Gotye' image

Bertie’s brilliant new single Boy premiered on triple j this week. Alongside this is the news that Bertie Blackman will be supporting Gotye and The Rubens on the below tour dates!

Bertie puts it best: "P.I.X is a collection of childhood stories.. real and unreal. Stories don't come alive until they are told. I can't wait to bring these tales to life over the next few months… especially alongside great artists such as Gotye and the Rubens. Minstrel style."

The quirky and fantastic new animated video clip for Boy has been released today and is directed by Quan Yeoman (Regurgitator).

Bertie wrote pages and pages to tell the tale of a creature made up of a town: the cobblestone streets inhabitants walk on every day. “He spends his whole life being trodden on, wanting to be a real human. So one day he takes someone’s hand, breaks their fingers, and makes legs out of them; at night he takes their dreams. The chorus is a celebration – he thinks he’s done it – but unfortunately he didn’t use a very good glue to stick his bits together. We all need a better glue.”

This is the second single lifted from Bertie’s forthcoming gorgeous album Pope Innocent X. This is her fourth album which will be released on October 12th. The long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed Secrets and Lies – a record which took out the 2009 ARIA for Best Independent Release, and the AIR Award for Breakthrough Independent Artist. It’s a mix all Blackman’s own, assisted by producer/composer François ‘Franc’ Tétaz (Gotye, Architecture In Helsinki, Sally Seltmann), as she forges into brand new musical territory yet again, with stunning results.

Pre orders are available now via getmusic.com.au for the limited special edition album which comes with a special linen hardcover case and an illustration for each song, drawn by the talented Bertie herself! If you were lucky enough to go past David Bromley’s studio in Byron at Splendour you would have seen these on display!
