It’s safe to claim Boyz II Men are living legends of their genre. Their signature style of a capella fused with hip-hop is still second to none. The latest album, ‘Twenty’ celebrates 20 years of success in the industry and the group adds in a bonus CD including eight re-recorded classic serving as a cheers and a gift to their fans.
'More Than You’ll Ever Know' produced by and featuring Grammy Award nominated Charlie Wilson (Best R&B Album 2010) is the first single for Twenty and the choice is not surprising. Other big producers include Babyface who serves another goodie, ‘One More Dance’.
Though Boyz II Men celebrate their longevity, tracks still sound fresh and like the same group of men people fell in love with 20 years ago. They haven’t changed their sound or musical integrity to keep up with rapidly evolving trends, yet have managed to remain energetic and relevant for modern R&B listeners. By now anyone who grew up listening to them should’ve been through enough life experience to know Boyz II Men is good for making sweet love to and perhaps not much else, unless, after two decades, one is still willing to plummet into heartbreaking despair after losing a lover.
Twenty is recommended for those beginning a relationship and possibly not for those who just lost one, unless crying and holding onto someone is a favored pass time; then by all means go ahead and lament. At the very least Boyz II Men still have the ability to break into one’s emotional safe and cause a reaction. They can still make you want to grab somebody and love him or her for the sake of it, even if it is just until the album ends.
