Beyond the Sun is a nostalgic album of much loved songs for Chris Isaak. Isaak performs with his band, the famous Kenney Dale Johnson (Drums & Vocals), Rowland Salley (Bass & Vocals), Hershel Yatovitz (Guitar & Vocals), and Rafael Padilla (Percussion).
The album is a bit of a different style for some Chris Isaak fans, as it is a genre best described as “Rockabilly” - two parts old style rock’n’roll and one part country, a sound that was popular in the fifties. This album has been recorded in Memphis at the legendary Sun Studio (home of Sun Records), where greats such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins played; which lends a real air of authenticity to the sound of this album.
The tracks on “Beyond the Sun” are a personal selection of the much loved songs that Chris Isaak grew up listening to. Each song comprises the strong clear vocals we’ve come to know from Chris Isaak, as well as the layers of sound that a great band provides. The album has a very pure sound and is not over produced like so many albums seem to be these days.
Chris Isaak plays some big hits such as ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘Great Balls of Fire’, ‘Can't Help Falling in Love’, ‘I Walk the Line’ and ‘Ring of Fire’, along with perhaps the less well-known ‘Miss Pearl’, ‘I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ and ‘Dixie Fried’. Chris Isaak has also recorded an original song, the jumping ‘Live It Up’.
I loved the album. It will make a great present for your parents or grandparents that grew up with those songs from the fifties.
