Jack Johnson delivers free show in Santa Monica

The songs of low-key romantic Jack Johnson have always been beach-ready, and the Hawaiian-raised singer has promoted the release of his upcoming To the Sea with a free show at the Santa Monica Pier. Set for Monday, May 24, Johnson will take over the 3,000-capacity pier for a 75-minute set, his only show in the Los Angeles-area until October.
The concert also served to raise awareness for environmental nonprofit Heal the Bay . The bulk of tickets, therefore, will be reserved for those who participate in a two-hour beach cleanup on the Saturday afternoon of May 22.
Pop & Hiss is told that those who don't secure tickets can still hear the concert by hanging out on the beach directly to the north and south of the pier. No booze, however, and those who go to the concert are given this gentle reminder from Johnson's team, in light of the beach cleanup set for the Saturday before the Monday night concert: "The goal here is to clean up the beach, whatever you bring, take home, please recycle, or dispose of in the proper containers."
