Product Info
My One And Only Thrill, the follow up to Worrisome Heart, is giant creative leap forward for Melody Gardot.
Mixing latin rhythms, finger-snapping blues and deep, smouldering torch
songs, it’s an album that seems to have been shaped from several
lifetimes of love, loss and longing, though of course she’s still only
in her early twenties.

My One and Only Thrill, is the sublime and intimate follow up album from Melody Gardot. Picking up where her acclaimed debut album “Worrisome Heart” left off, there is a distinct maturing of her songwriting and sound accompanied by an innate sense that this is a very special piece of work.
It’s an audible journey through late night jazz clubs, bluesy and soulful grooves, floating latin rhythms, folk style guitar and sweeping string arrangements. Whilst drawing on a plethora of influences which bring with it a vast variety of compositions the album never looses it’s sense of completeness, an aspect partly due to the production.
Producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux, Herbie Hancock) sticks to the sound he does best, simple and spacious. The perfect backdrop for Gardot’s effortless voice to wind us through her sophisticated yet cheeky lyrics.
“Who will comfort me” gets my top pick. A sedate Amy Winehouse style groove with fun backing vocals, brushes, a great horn line and organ to spice it up. Tracks such as this assist to distinguish Gardot from being, “The girl who sounds like a more contemporary Diana Krall”.
Whilst the strings are stunning, they are not over indulged, a very wise decision. This allows the listener to drink in and interpret Gardot’s own style which she is fast establishing.
Such a diversified and colourful artist draws an excessive amount of musical comparisons, however a few to assist you along your purchasing way are... Diana Krall, Norah Jones, the blues side of James Taylor and a acoustic Jamie Cullum.
This album crosses borders and is not defined by genre. Appreciators of fine music, musicianship and lyric will find Gardot and her melodies, a delight!
