Sarah Blasko’s star continues to shine ever so brightly with two ARIA award-winning albums and an acclaimed debut record. Australia’s favourite darling songbird continues to impress audiences with her intimate and engrossing pop tunes. To coincide with her upcoming tour, her third album, As Day Follows Night has been repackaged with a bonus live disc.
Combining 15 tracks recorded live at the Forum in Melbourne in 2009; it takes its selections from her past two efforts and also includes a cover of Olivia Newton John’s “Xanadu”. It has the makings of an excellent live record and certainly could hold its own as a stand-alone release. Here, Blasko is like Australia’s answer to Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor, with the latter artist clearly referenced in opener, “Down On Love”. Elsewhere there are some sultry circus dynamics (“Bird On A Wire”); catchy pop (“Hold On My Heart”); cheery singing saw (“All I Want”); and what can only be described as a homage to Del Shannon’s “Runaway” (“We Won’t Run”).
Blasko continues to enthrall with a stunning voice that sounds like it comes from someone who wouldn’t have butter melt in her mouth. With a distinct energy and spirit, Live At The Forum boasts some wonderful sonic dynamics and reaches in deeply to affect the listener and tug at their heartstrings with tales of woe and joy and all things related to love. Divine.

Sarah Blasko is magical. The songs she writes, the sweetness of her voice and in particular her peculiar yet intriguing performance style all has this peacefulness to it.
