Product Info

Tame Impala make psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock music. It’s intended for moving one’s body to, and it’s intended for keeping still and observing other forms of movement. The EP is 5 tracks of untamed enthusiasm and unexpected delight. Beginning with Desire Be, Desire Go’s endlessly looping, loose groove verses, to Skeleton Tiger’s marching band drums and haunting lead guitar, the Tame Impala EP is a beautiful snapshot into what lies within this beast.

I really wasn’t a fan of Tame Impala before the album arrived on my doorstep. Which is odd considering I have serious love for anything retro, and obsessively listen to The Shins, Sleepy Jackson, and Vampire Weekend, who merge alternative/psychedelic rock sounds easily. But I’ll admit defeat when I’m wrong and the more I listened to this self titled album, the more I felt myself being transported to a time well before my own. And I liked it.
‘Desire Be, Desire Go’ or ‘Half Full Glass Of Wine’ could easily be swapped into the soundtrack for the movie Blow, and if you like your Holgas-styled-photos, fantasize about attending Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert, fringed moccasin boots and sexy summer retro you’re gonna love these guys and this album. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what follows this album and if, like the real psych movement which organically grew as time went on, Tame Impala stay true to their sound or take it to a whole new and exciting level.

It's good to finally have some new music from a new band that doesn't sound like everything else out there right now. There are some really catchy tracks on this (short) psychadelic/rock album - 'Desire Be, Desire Go' and 'Half Glass full of Wine'. Hope they make a longer album soon!

Tame Impala remind me of great seventies psychedelic bands. Sometimes they even sound like Beck, which can only be a good thing. But what a beautiful EP! Each track works its way into your head with its lyric and melodies. There are heaps of bands out there trying to do the whole psychedelic/indie sound and Tame Impala are doing well at it. I think each track is really great, with the vocalist really using the range of his voice.
