If you’ve ever wanted to throw a dinner party, but not known quite where to begin, the Ministry of Sound’s 2011 release Tableism serves up a mouth-watering solution. Much like the perfect meal, the ingredients in this double-CD collection have been carefully selected and blended to create the perfect inspiration for any dinner party.
On disc one, Jamie Lidell’s meandering track ‘All I Wanna Do’ sets the ideal mood for such a party, with a beat that induces relaxation, while similarly cruisy efforts by favourites MGMT, Aloe Blacc, Wamdue Project feat. Jessica Tonder and Groove Armada, as well as the infectiously feel-good ‘Light All My Lights’ by Seeker Lover Keeper, all maintain the gentle ambience.
The second disc is slightly livelier but the chilled-out mood carries over. Tracks by Bonobo and Mark Ronson & the Business Intl, and the playful ‘Something Good Can Work’ by Two Door Cinema Club, show off a careful blend of captivating beats and calming, electronic rhythm as the album culminates with the aesthetically eerie ‘Norway’ by Beach House.
It seems fitting that this compilation is dubbed ‘Tableism’ – such a word could easily refer to a dinner party religion; teaching the etiquette of cooking, conversation and atmosphere. And for those who are planning a dinner party, the Ministry of Sound’s Tableism is undoubtedly the gospel.
