Vasco Era’s sophomore album has a lot more to offer than what first meets the eye. It tells the story of Lucille – a woman who strips to survive - and Sam – her conservative boyfriend. Each song details their doomed relationship as their lifestyles, peers and values slowly tear them apart.

While the usual yelps, screams and loud choruses are still present on this album they’ve evened it out and expanded from their usual drum, guitar and bass to include sprawling piano sounds and a cappella harmonies throughout.

Stand out tracks include opener “Not Stuck Here” that starts gradually but builds into a powerhouse with Sid wailing into the chorus. “I Am The Vessel” explodes through your speakers before the perfectly timed closing song “They’ve Already Won” (which is sure to be a favorite live).

It’s a sprawling tale that is guaranteed to have you intrigued from track 1. While they seem to have calmed their songs down a little since the last album you can still feel the foot stomping, crowd pleasing, dirty, gritty, howling quality that the Vasco Era are famous for.

The term “concept album” can make you cringe – this however is a concept album that delivers on every track. It’ll have you addicted and wanting to listen to it over and over again.
