Alt-Country artist Jason Walker is proud to announce details of his new album ‘All-Night Ghost Town’, the first through the prestigious label Lost Highway Records.
‘All-Night Ghost Train’ is the fourth studio album from the Blue Mountains based artist and was produced and mixed by ARIA award winning and label mate Shane Nicholson. The duo paired up over a six month period at Shane’s studio The Sound Hole on the Central Coast of New South Wales to record.
“The typical producer/ artist arrangements sometimes cast people in the role of friends who stick firm. Of course, that was Neil Young and David Briggs, and also Jack Nitzche. Shane and I were more like old bar room brawlers, circling each other. A little wary maybe,” explains Jason.
Performing with Jason on All-Night Ghost Town are Steve Fielding, Jeff McCormack and Michael Carpenter who produced Jason’s previous albums Ceiling Sun Letters, Ashes & Wine and his debut album Stranger to Someone. Among the tracks Sydney based Jules Crighton and Americana Alt –Country singer Katie Brianna provide backing vocals on two of songs. Singing from different emotional places Jules features on ‘Tears’ – an emotional song from the olden days, while Katie can be heard on ‘Poison’.
Lead track ‘Borrowed Tunes’ is the first single lifted from All-Night Ghost Town. Jason sums the song up well, “If all I had was hope… Well, that’s a first line, I guess. There is so much that I could say about the inspiration for it but it’s better to leave the listener wanting more. That said it swings nicely. It’ll also be the first single, which means that people will see that some sort of hope exists in my writing. I’m a perverse son-of-a-bitch.”
All-Night Ghost Town is the work of Jason’s thirty-plus years in the music industry. Originally from New Zealand, Jason crossed waters just before he turned 18 to become a writer and a performer. His career has seen him perform in many bands (Youth Group, El Mopa, Captain Scarlett, Golden Rough), write numerous biographies (Gram Parsons, Billy Thorpe) and build a reputation as one of the country’s leading pedal steel players.
“It has taken me a while between records, usually five years at least. In that time, I have been through a fair bit; falling in love, first-time fatherhood, a couple of break-downs, rehab – the gamut of emotions. In my experience, it has been worth the while. The making of this album, All-Night Ghost Town, has been a chance for me to record an album while transferring responsibility to a trusted producer and musicians”.
